The Top 10 Blog Interview With….. @grattongirl

I am delighted to welcome a lady of many talents as the latest guest in my Interview series, namely Sarah Gratton aka @grattongirl.

Previously a theatre and TV performer and now an author and producer, Sarah has recently been confirmed as the ‘Influential Informer’ presenting a series of personal branding interviews and features in the forthcoming series of ‘You Are The Supermodel’.

Sarah is such a fun person to follow on Twitter with her fascinating and entertaining links and her warm and friendly interaction with all the people she connects with. You can learn more about her at Sarah-Jayne Gratton.com and on Facebook and you can also connect with her on Twitter by clicking the image below.

If you were stranded on a desert island and were allowed one luxury item what would it be and why?

I’d have to choose my little solar powered and wind-up radio with built in torch. It’s not the most glamorous of accessories granted, but a happy tune and a ray of light can be a girl’s best friend when she’s stranded far from home.

Do you have any phobias?

Like many, I have a dreadful fear of spiders (even the tiniest ones).  I view them as nature’s squatters; happy to take up residence in any vacant corner of my home.  Whilst I wouldn’t see any harm come to them, I do rely on hubby to evict them using the glass and card method.

Who inspires you and why?

Many people inspire me for different reasons.  I am incredibly inspired by the courage and determination of Jessica Cox, who was born without arms and yet went on to graduate from college, drive a car and fly a plane using just her feet.

Positivity, in terms of overcoming great suffering and tragedy is always inspiring, and we have seen so much of it lately in the actions of those involved in #Japan Tsunami and nuclear crisis. I am greatly inspired by the heroic workers, fundraisers and of course my wonderful friends on Twitter who have raised awareness through their tweets, posts and blogs of the need to help those affected come through this tragedy with hope in their hearts.

Coming from a performing background, I’m also hugely inspired by new talent and I am a great supporter of youth theatre, music and the arts. Twitter is a great place to discover this. Acts like the wonderful @MarySarahMusic who recently tweeted me a link to her new iPhone app (Yay!) and the incredible @Marcome, whose song Twitter Me Some Love has become a viral sensation, are testimony to what’s possible with the right combination of talent and support.

Which animal would you most like to be and why?

I’d have to say a cat! As the great historian Hippolyte Tain once said, “I have studied many philosophers and many cats. The wisdom of cats is infinitely superior.” Cats are nobody’s fool and have an independence and aloofness that I find quite majestic. Having said that, cats can certainly turn on the affection and charm when they feel in need of a cuddle , and don’t we all from time to time?

Which is your all time favourite movie and why?

It has to be ‘Barefoot in the Park’. I adore Neil Simon’s writing and, with this movie, he has taken one of his theatre masterpieces and translated it ingeniously for the big-screen  It’s a movie that never loses it charm.

Beautifully directed by Gene Saks and perfectly cast, with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda as the expectant newlyweds, it’s a total joy to watch and always leaves me feeling uplifted and full of joie de vivre!

If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?

I’d love the power to move things with my mind. That way, even if hubby (@grattonboy) was having a lie-in I could always be sure of coffee in bed!

What do you think you will be doing in 10 years time?

Still doing what excites me I hope! Producing, writing and creating, albeit with a few more grey hairs or two.

What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

Soaking in a candlelit bubble bath with hubby and several glasses of Shiraz!

You are holding a dinner party and you can invite 3 people (living or historical), who would you invite and why?

Oscar Wilde for his eloquence and wit, Stephen Fry (as he played him brilliantly in the movie, Wilde, and I think they would get on famously) Oh, and Elton John for the entertainment!

Can you tell us one thing about yourself which would surprise people who know you?

As a child I wanted to change my name to Maria because of Julie Andrew’s character in the Sound of Music!

Many thanks to Sarah for her excellent and open responses to my questions. Please do let us know if you have any comments or questions.
