The Top 10 Blog Interview With…..@Marcome
It’s time for another Interview and this week I am delighted to welcome Canadian Singer, Songwriter and Musician, Marcome.
Marcome is someone I have really enjoyed connecting with not only for her music, but also because of the entertainment and great links to be found in her Twitter stream. You can connect with Marcome on Twitter@Marcome and find out more about the lady and her music at Marcome.com and at her Blog.
Here’s Marcome’s ‘Twitter me some Love’ to get you started.
If you were stranded on a desert island and were allowed one luxury item what would it be and why?
I would have my iPod on which I have a huge variety of music ranging from classic to electro pop. I have to say that I also have my audio books on my iPod which are great companions in my day to day life. (Pema Chodron, EcKhart Tolle and many others)
Do you have any phobias?
I fear deep water such as Sea Water, not to the point I would not go but I could not sail easily in a windstorm!
I used to fear spiders and other insects till the day I got to the Montreal Insectarium with my son. My ignorance and false conceptions were fixed that day! I got to understand that the habits of those creatures are intrinsically connected with all life and they have no intention of hurting me. In Canada we only have to be cautious with the spider called ‘Veuve Noire’ Black Widow, which you find in very specific places in the country.
I used to be quite tensed in the dark till the day I met a Park Ranger while I was camping deep in the woods. I would fear that some creatures would attack me in the dark such as bears or even aliens! He brought me back to reality. They do have to patrol the park day and night by themselves and they walk in the camping areas. I asked him what were the real dangers.
Basically, if you don’t get in between a Mommy bear and her cubs or meet a very deranged Wolf, you’re all right! Most animals do fear humans and will only attack if threatened or feeling trapped of defending their babies. This ranger had just a few stories that had happened in the park for the last 20 years so I understood that my imagination was far out!
I can now walk in the dark on camping. I make sure I make a noise tapping the soil to make animals go away before I get close to them. Daytime, it’s the opposite, I try to be silent and hope to observe them!
Who inspires you and why?
I watched Amadeus recently and it connected me back with classical music for the last month. I’m quite impressed with the richness of old music and of famous operas. Wish I could chat with Mozart!
On a spiritual level, Jesus inspires me the most nowadays. He is the best example of patience, unconditional love, understanding, perseverance, will, and faith!
On a scientific level, I really enjoy Norman Doidge’s book The Brain that Changes Itself which is a gold mine of very good news! It shows us that almost anything is possible with our brain, that we’re much more competent in evolving our capacity than what we had thought in the 60’s.
I keep enjoying Eckhart Tolle for making me understand the connection with the present moment as the ultimate one! Pema Chodron for her motherly and affectionate way of taking care of one self in this process. Films such as What the Bleep do we Know? for connecting science with spirituality and opening up a new era of possibility toward a better life.
Which animal would you most like to be and why?
I would choose a migrating bird that travels beautiful countries. I would want to know which countries the bird flies. Something like Canada to Jamaica! Why? To see the world from top and take some sun. I’m fascinated when I take the plane. I dream of going in a space shuttle and watch the earth from the sky!
What is the one thing in life that irritates you the most and why?
I become sad when I see all the crookery and violence that’s going on in the world and in my country. In the middle age era one could say we lacked knowledge, food, water, shelter, that we were in barbarism. But today, we have access to knowledge and are still somewhat quite ‘immature’ as individual and in groups. It seems to me we need a human being ethic code for the entire planet.
The capitalistic system is running wild, putting power in the hands of a few and glorifying money, having, doing and destroying the lives of humans and animals and seriously damaging the environment. All this is justified In the name of money. More, more, more. But I say we’re human beings for Gods sake – Where is our sensitivity, our good sense. In the last decades, more and more films and documentaries were produced on many social and environmental issues. I know this will continue and that’s reassuring. We have to wake up and evolve!
I highly recommend Annie Leonard at www.storyofstuff.com
If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?
I hesitate in between being able to be anywhere at any time instantly (a bit like Beam me up Scotty!) or being able to hear people’s mental chat room or being able to heal people.
To travel fast would just be great. I sometimes wish I could skip a 24-hours trip! Although I assume it and rest or read, I would like to travel quicker.
Hearing people’s inner dialogue would allow me to understand the human brain conditioning a little more. I’m quite passionate about cognitive therapy and the brain potentials.
Healing people from their sufferings. Being able to connect them with their inestimable and real beauty, which is inside one self.
What do you think you will be doing in 10 years time?
Surely a mixture of music and other things as of today. I want to start doing Musical and Sound Body and Mind Explorations, workshops with guest speakers with portions of ritual chants that I will do.
I want to write a book about the tough road to happiness.
I will be volunteering somewhere with kids and teens.
I will still be traveling!
What is your favourite guilty pleasure?
I love to eat candies! When I travel, I make sure I test some local sweets and deserts.
You are holding a dinner party and you can invite 3 people (living or historical), who would you invite and why?
Jesus, Buddha and Carl Sagan
I’m passionate about science, love and the human condition. I would want to feel the presence of those beings, ask them some questions. I also would be curious to see the interactions of all 3!
Can you tell us one thing about yourself which would surprise people who know you?
For the people who know me the best such as my hubby and son, I could not find anything to say. With me ‘what you see is what you get’ and I easily express my views and tastes. They’re quite realistic about who I am and they know me very well. On the other hand, some friends and extended family members think they know me but I realized that sometimes, people project their ideas on me rather than asking me – I think that overall, I’ve tried to be who I am in my music career as much as I am in my day to day life as a citizen.
I think people know that I’m a simple woman who tries to be her best! Under the potentially glamorous aspects of a music artist, I’m a simple person who enjoys drinking my Japanese tea in the morning and my cafe au lait in the afternoon! I don’t go out in bars and I love to do nothing – sometimes!!!
Many thanks go to Marcome for sharing her thoughtful answers with us all.
